Steve's Biography

Steve Hudson is a freelance underwater and topside cameraman, specialising in underwater filming projects. In addition to his camera work Steve is an experienced dive instructor, dive instructor trainer and underwater guide with over a fifteen years of experience in many diverse diving environments and locations throughout the world.

Diving Industry

Steve first became fascinated by the marine environment while living in East Africa and the Mediterranean as a teenager; he subsequently completed his PADI Divemaster and Instructor ratings in 1995 and 1996. Gaining valuable experience teaching classes in the cold and challenging conditions around the coastline of the United Kingdom.

In 1997 Steve moved to Grand Cayman with the next three years seeing him develop from an instructor with cold-water teaching experience to an adaptable and thoroughly rounded instructor and location manager. He was responsible for all staff training and customer courses for Red Sail Sports - one of the Caribbean's largest and most prestigious PADI 5 star dive resorts, with multiple locations on the island.

In 2000 Steve moved to Sharm-el-Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula in the Egyptian Red Sea. He spent the next two years working for Emperor Divers, the largest and busiest dive company in the Red Sea. He was responsible for all diver training for this well-respected PADI 5 star Career (Instructor) development centre, traveling throughout Egypt conducting Instructor programs at the company's other locations. It was during this time he achieved the respected PADI Course Director (Instructor Trainer) rating in 2001, at the age of 26.

Steve again moved looking for advancement and new challenges, this time to Bermuda in early 2002. Hired to reorganise and restructure Dive Bermuda, an established dive operation with two island locations. Achieving marked success in a short period of time, the company improved rapidly offering a more comprehensive and professional service to its customers.

Luxury Yachting

In 2003 a change of career direction saw Steve move into the luxury private yacht industry. Starting on a 50-metre expedition yacht as the dedicated dive and water sports assistant, he soon moved to a larger vessel and the position of dive master onboard a yacht owned by one of the worlds most famous yachting owners.

Over the next two years this yacht traveled extensively with Steve diving in some of the most remote destinations in the world, conducting both owner and guests trips and performing reconnaissance expeditions. During this time Steve honed his video skills learnt from his years in the diving industry, and added a thorough knowledge of editing techniques and software.

In 2005 Steve was promoted within the owners fleet to the role of dive officer, onboard what was at the time the largest private yacht in the world with unique underwater systems. From 2005 to 2007 the vessels entire itinerary and focus for long periods was on visiting some of the worlds most famous dive destinations, with Steve diving in every environment from fresh water lakes of Canada to the tropics of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and the dramatic under ice scenery of Antarctica. Along the way filming and working with some of the worlds most celebrated wildlife filming professionals while using state of the art equipment.

New Company

In 2007 Steve immigrated to Auckland, New Zealand and established Pelagic Productions Ltd. He spends a large amount of time each year out of the country on assignments, working as a freelance underwater cameraman for TV productions and guide/instructor and diving consultant for all aspects of the filming, diving and yachting industries.
